Archangel Raphael: The Awareness of the Way of God

Spring is opened by the energy of Raphael who is one of the seven Archangels described as standing before the throne of the Lord, and one of the only three mentioned by name in the Bible, specifically in the Book of Tobit. In that book he is described as appeared in human disguise, under the name of Azarias (which means Yahweh helps), the son of the great Ananias, in order to heal Tobit’s blindness and accompany his son Tobias in the adventurous journey of liberating his future wife Sarah from the maleficent power the demon Asmodeus.

Thanks to Raphael’s guidance Tobiah approached safely the marriage with Sarah, avoiding from being killed on the night of the wedding, before consummating the marriage, as it had happened in the past; and, by restoring Tobit’s vision, Raphael allowed the man to see the light of Heaven and receive all good things through his intercession.

This is the reason why he is to be considered “one of the seven Holy Angels who present the prayers of the saints and enter into the presence of the glory of the Holy One.” (Tobit 12:15)

His name in Hebrew is רְפָאֵל (Resh 200 – Peh 80 – Aleph 1 – Lamed 30 = Gematria 310/31/4) that means ‘It is God who heals’ or ‘God Heals’, or ‘God, Please Heal.’

The letter Resh is called the Cosmic Container, which means that we need to become aware of the difference between the inner and the outer reality. As we focus on the outer, we forget the inner connection with the Higher. Resh is about the clarification and purification needed to reveal the true heart and free ourselves from the survival issues of the body. The letter Peh is the heart informing the mouth with the truth; it is the capacity of each human being to listen to the creative word and align their mouth to their heart. Aleph is the paradox between man and God: there is no separation and, as we listen to the voice within, we can be guided and be realigned to the Higher Will. Lamed is the Contemplation of the Heart, the movement from the inner to the outer of the truth and the awareness of the presence of God in every situation; it is the possibility of receiving the light of God into our heart and align our mind.

The name Raphael represents, therefore, a deep reconnection with the source and a possibility to “heal” ourselves by going back to a deep inner sense of wholeness and oneness with God; he is the power of God to heal heart and soul, mind and body, by restoring the faith the One Life-power.

In many ancient paintings Archangel Raphael has been represented in a pilgrim suit having an rod in form of a caduceus, the ancient symbol of the medical arts, in front of a water from which a fish jumps (recalling the legend in the Book of Tobias); he may be represented with the index finger pointing upward, pointing the sky in a gesture of encouragement and hope, reminding us of where the true healing comes from. Most of the time he is depicted with a tablet on his breast bearing the name of God.

According to the Zohar, Raphael is the chief of the Order of Angels Bene Elohim (Sons of Godly Beings) that can be found in Genesis 6:2, Job 1:6, Job 38:7, and Psalm 29:1; he is related to the Kabbalistic Sephira of Hod, planet Mercury (Hermes) and the left leg. His counterpart in the Islamic culture is Isrāfīl.

Traditionally Raphael is represented with the colour green, the colour of nature, healing, synchronicity and regeneration, while in the Aura-Soma Colour-Care® System he has been associated to royal blue and the Equilibrium bottle 96, which is the Return Journey of bottle 18, the Turning Tide.

Royal blue is a colour made of blue and a pinch of red or pink. For this reason, it may be linked to survival and security issues with the material aspects of life which need to be transformed in awakening to the small voice within and allowing the inner perceptions to come through to the heart and mind in order to awaken to the inner wisdom. It is about the awakening to the blue of the High Priestess within ourselves in order to become a receptive vehicle for the Divine flow poured in from above to be expressed in the world from our innermost being.

Royal Blue is the colour associated to our higher perceptions (clair-audience, clair-seeing and clair-sentience) and the clarity at the sense doors (mind, sight, touch, taste, smell, hearing) beyond our mind-sets and beliefs.

Raphael, the Watcher of the North – the cardinal direction associated with wisdom and achievement – is correlated to one of the Fixed Royal Stars called Regulus now located at 0 degrees in the constellation of Virgo – where it entered in 2012 AD after leaving the sign of Leo where it had been since 157 BC – associated to the Sabian Symbol IN A PORTRAIT, THE SIGNIFICANT FEATURES OF A MAN’S HEAD ARE ARTISTICALLY EMPHASIZED, which, according to Dane Rudhyar, is connected to the capacity to picture to oneself clearly the salient features and the overall meaning of any life situation and therefore, discriminate through analysis and intuition.

Alpha Regulus is a triple star, the star of kings, known as being the heart of the lion in the constellation of Leo, the ultimate protector of heart and home (our body).

The Royal Blue of Raphael is symbolic of leaving the darkness of the inner night by the dispelling falsehood and negativity that lies within and behind all diseases and reconnect us with the heart of the Lion, that is the seat of our faith and inner knowing, coming from the profound awareness of our interconnection and interdependence with the universe and innate unity with the Divine source.

In the form of the Aura-Soma Archangeloi essence Raphael supports the possibility to listen to our inner voice coming from the deep inner silence in order to help dissolve conditioned patterns, clear insight and non-judgmental observation.

Spring is a time of growth and renewal in nature and it is also a synonymous for humans with regeneration and, therefore, also with healing. It is a time where each person has to let go of everything inside that is old and obsolete. Archangel Raphael at the beginning of the new Zodiacal Year supports us in reconnecting with the regenerative power of nature and assists us in being receptive to the hidden lifeforce coming from the heart of the universe carrying a new flow of life.

In 2020 the spring equinox will be on 20th March. In esoteric numerology 20 is about gestation, giving birth. A completely new energy is coming through and Raphael is there to support us welcoming it into our heart and listen to it so that it may be expressed in our worldly actions and deeds.

In the past initiates have shared with us that, if we become conscious of the transmission of these powerful energies, they can accelerate our spiritual growth and rise in consciousness.

Over the course of the year, passage from one season to another takes place at four points called equinoxes and solstices, which are like nodes of specific forces. The deployment of these forces is organized and regulated by great spirits who take charge of distributing them over the surface of the planet. You must not assume that everything in nature operates mechanically. No, all changes are produced by the work of certain entities who are in charge either of plants, animals, human beings or other creatures. It is the Archangel Raphael who reigns over Spring. This archangel has command of a myriad of spirits who work under his supervision on the regeneration and growth of vegetation. So, at the beginning of spring, you must establish a bond with the Archangel Raphael. Ask him to make you receptive to the virtues hidden in trees, grasses and flowers, so that this new life penetrates you as well.” – Omraam Mikhail Aivanhov
