The Corn Full Moon: A Journey into the Depth of the Self

The next Full Moon occurring on 6th September at 13° Pisces has been defined by the Native Americans the Corn Moon.

Field of Grain

In the ancient wisdom teachings corn was symbolic of good. Grains are the primary source of energy in our physical daily life and for that reason our actions may be considered grain-powered; esoterically they provide the energy for our spiritual inner work, as they referred to the simple good that may come from the obedience to the Higher Laws and to the true ideas springing from the Higher Love of God.

At the time of a Full Moon the Sun and the Moon are opposite each other in the sky. The Sun will be standing in Virgo, while the Moon will be positioned in Pisces. Esoterically Virgo is a sign that refers to a change of life direction and Pisces a sign of death, endings and resurrection. Pisces is a watery sign and water is associated with the emotional world of the subconscious, which will be deeply triggered by the presence of the retrograde Neptune, the King of the Sea, conjunct the Moon. Neptune is about the dissolution of our illusions and self-deceit; it symbolizes a force beyond the logical mind and beyond our control asking us to surrender to its overwhelming flooding energy.

In the esoteric teachings the Moon is associated with the personality, and the old belief systems, needs, wants and hopes that keep us unconsciously a slave of an illusory state of mind. Our intellect constantly swings between guilt and pride looking for ways to be seen, recognized, appreciated, loved and fulfilled. The intellect has a personal view of the world; it thinks it knows who we are, what we want to be and what to do in order to lead us to what we define as happiness. This gives us the illusion that one day we will reach that state of being and that it will last forever. But the intellect represents a limitation to our true self and this is the reason why we experience disillusions throughout life. Their aim is to lead us to the true life we are meant to live, which can only unfold if we drop our ideas about what we think is good and follow the still small voice within. This will be the role of Neptune retrograde in Pisces, conjunct the Moon, at the time of this Full Moon. Everything hidden behind the scenes will be rising out of the shadow into the light in order to be seen and faced. It will bring an inevitable disintegration and dissolution of the illusions related to intimate relationships that have come to an end, or some aspect of our personality. Our old view of the world and ourselves will collapse and we will be no longer gratified by the same things that we once believed were most important to us.

Neptune is about discovering the Higher reality and this cannot occur unless we experience the disillusionment of what we thought was real.

Neptune dissolves the old highly ordered patterns of consciousness. Thus, we are made aware of the limitations of our usual perceptions and of the fact that there exists something greater and more comprehensive than we have presumed.” – Stephen Arroyo in “Astrology, Karma & Transformation”.

Neptune may lead us into confusion and a state of Divine Discontent, which is not to be seen as a negative state, but a transitional state to the new reality of the soul. It is difficult for the intellect to accept that it has no power and that its reality is falling apart. From the esoteric point of view this is a step towards the way of the soul, if we are strong enough to stand and watch the old world falling apart for the New Reality to rise.

From the numerological point of view September is a 19 month (9th month + 2+0+1+7 = 19/10/1), which relates to the esoteric Tarot card The Sun. In this card we can see a man and a woman standing together on a wonderful circle of green and there is a wall behind them. Card 19 is symbolic of giving up our will to the higher will, it is about the release, the revelation and the radiation of the inner Sun that we all carry by finding the door of truth, will and love. The man and the woman, representing the feminine and masculine in us, have allowed all their needs and wants to be broken down in the 16th card The Tower (Pluto will be at 16° Capricorn, sextile the Moon and trine the Sun, acting as the Destroying Angel of Ray 1 that it embodies), and now a new wall is being built. This wall is the beginning of the building of the New Jerusalem, which is the House of the Soul.

The New Jerusalem Temple is the ‘Holy of Holies’. This is when our Soul completely responds to the impulse of its  spiritual Sun and starts radiating through matter, so that matter can be transubstantiated and brought back to its etheric state. […] That is the New Jerusalem, when people will be able to see everything as divine, from within the heart and not from the intellect. Then we will be truly radiating a change of perception, which can actually transmute matter by bringing more light and life into it”. C. Aegerter & B. Benjelloun in “The Spirit of the Tarot: Numbers as Initiators of the Major Arcana”.

Being Pisces the last sign of the Zodiac, it will bring about a sense of completion, making us become aware that we have truly reached an endpoint, whether it is in our relationship, our job or idea of self.

This Full Moon will be conjunct Ankaa, a Fixed Star on the neck of the constellation of the mythical Phoenix. In the Eastern tradition this bird was a symbol of a cyclic period, the beginning of a new time. In mythology the phoenix is an emblem of immortality and reincarnation because it is said to build a nest where it will perish in the flames of the fire ignited by the rays of the rising Sun in order to be born again after three days. In the ancient Egypt it was called Bennu, which meant the “He who came into Being by Himself”, “the Ascending One”, as it was said to be the soul of the Sun-God Ra. In the secret orders of initiates it was symbolic of the one who had been accepted into the temples as a man twice-born, or reborn in spirit, because the faith in the wisdom of the soul confers a new life.

In the Aura-Soma teachings about the 72 Angels it has been compared to the Incarnational Angel, the one that holds the keys to our mission and purpose, as, when we go beyond the limitations that we hold about ourselves, the life we are meant to live may unfold as destined.

Karmically September is a 37 month (9th month + 20+1+7 =37/10/1), the number associated in esoteric numerology to the vision of the true self, the soul.

At this stage everything will be revealed and come to the surface. It is a time to stand in the truth of who we are and accept the will of the Greater life we live in. Only at that point, with no guilt or fear, we may start acting according to where we are, doing whatever has to be done in the situation that is in front of us.

It is a time of awakening and the vision of the new path is slowly unfolding in front of us. The past is dying behind and we only need to trust the little voice of the Soul whispering in our heart, as it is the only one who knows the Way.

The Corn Full Moon: A Journey into the Depth of the Self
Distant Fifer – Rassouli

What is seen is not the Truth
What is cannot be said
Trust comes not without seeing
Nor understanding without words
The wise comprehends with knowledge
To the ignorant it is but a wonder
Some worship the formless God
Some worship his various forms
In what way He is beyond these attributes
Only the Knower knows
That music cannot be written
How can then be the notes
Say Kabir, awareness alone will overcome illusion.”
